"Why eco-alarmists are wrong about almost everything." Prompted by a new bloom of
Australia's supposedly dying Great Barrier coral reef.
September 18th; Sunday. A rather creepy
US Army recruitment ad. Note the puppeteer imagery, with mentions
of "pulling the strings". Isn't the point of secret warfare that you don't advertise it publicly?
September 17th; Saturday. Chess player denies
cheating with help from vibrating beads up his bottom.
September 16th; Friday. Fascinatingly daft
interwar proposal to create a new country out of much of Europe.

about a book-length study of normal people who collaborated with the German Nazi government.
September 14th; Wednesday. Report claims that

21st anniversary of Donald Rumsfeld announcing that the Pentagon couldn't find

Two decades later, you can get three years in prison for turning your radiators up too high, Switzerland's government has decided.

Italian study finds 94% of vaccinated people have strange blood /

Late software pioneer and "eccentric millionaire" John McAfee has been resurrected -
or so a former girlfriend alleges. He was last seen, dead, in June 2021 in a
Spanish
prison cell. Here he is in a serious 2017
interview at a Romanian tech conference.
The claim he has come back to life rests on
him supposedly faking his own death. His ex-girlfriend, a bartender in Belize,
says she's heard from him since his body was found in a Barcelona prison cell. Without wishing to
be unkind, she might not be the most reliable of sources. On the other hand, it is the sort
of thing one could imagine that he of all people could have pulled off.
September 5th; Monday.
Is the Order of Malta still sovereign? A Maltese Knight I know sent me
this
article when I asked about the current Pope's intervention.
September 4th; Sunday. In
case you need current bulk prices of
saffron, as I did.
September 3rd; Saturday. All
the things wrong with a
futuristic town-planning project
in Saudi Arabia. Very much the sort of thing I was busily sketching on scrap paper aged 8 and 9.
Another, though less intelligent, critique of the same project from a girl who seems unaware of Jane Jacobs, and who buys
into the global-warming story. A similar vanity project in Egypt, and a short film claiming that the Saudis have been
lying about their oil reserves. Though
nicely even-handed, this oil-reserve piece hugely overestimates Arabia's chance of becoming an
advanced economy without oil. It also makes no reference to the maverick-but-highly-relevant
view that fossil fuels like oil, coal, gas aren't always made of decaying biomass.
September 2nd; Friday. Meet Mark,
Zoe, their daughter Anna and the new 3-month-old grandchild Baby (not her real name). The little one
seems very enthusiastic about her new world. Here's a curious short film about
Japanese bank heists.
September 1st; Thursday. How
does the fine-art market
really
work?
